Key Values of the
National Green Party
Maine needs a progressive tax policy - Tax those who have,
not those who don't, and Maine will have more revenue and fairness.
Community-Based Economics
and Economic Justice
Maine needs to save our children - Far too many Maine
children are living in poverty, sickness and despair.
Personal and Global
Responsibility
Maine needs to commit to fighting climate change - Only an all-out
War on Pollution will give our children a future.
Concern for the environment
and Sustainability
Maine needs health care for everyone - Insurance is not care,
and even people with insurance are losing homes and getting sicker.
Social Justice and Equal
Opportunity
Maine needs to give human rights to everyone - We need
marriage equality, voting rights for all, and an end to racial profiling.
Respect for Diversity
and Equality
Maine needs to make public education a priority - The ones we don't
teach are more likely to become adicts or criminals.
Grassroots Democracy
Maine needs to revise our criminal laws - Alternatives to
incarceration can reduce crime and save taxpayer dollars.

Non-Violence

Maine needs to protect rights for people, not corporations -
We need a law to reveal corporate involvement in electoral politics.
Maine needs to control our water - We're letting corporations
take it for nothing, killing our environment and our economy.
Generally, Maine should be run like a family, not like a business -
Businesses are based on competition and losers are left behind,
families are based on cooperation and those who are struggling are helped.

PEOPLE IN MAINE AGREE

"After careful deliberation we are pleased to inform you that we believe that you are the best candidate in your legislative race to represent Maine's working families and retirees, and have earned our endorsement."

Maine State Employees Association -
Service Employees International Union Local 1989

The League of Young Voters endorsed Seth Berner.

The Portland Phoenix newspaper endorsed Seth Berner.

"Among those running for the House of Representatives in District 115 is a long time friend of mine, Seth Berner, who is trustful, outspoken, and someone you should give real thought to when you visit the polls."
Gerald Talbot
Former Maine Democratic Legislator
Former President, NAACP Portland
Current resident of District 115

"I am voting for Seth for a lot of reasons- his volunteering, vision, and commitment to all sorts of local efforts to name a few. The best thing about Seth is his ability to listen, hear different viewpoints respectfully, and he always acts from an informed and compassionate position. "
Danny Muller
Former Director, Peace Action Maine
Current resident of District 115

"As a founding member of Veterans for Peace and as an officer in our Maine Chapter, I was pleased when we welcomed Seth Berner into our ranks as an honorary member (Seth is one of five to have achieved this distinction over our twenty-five year history). We were encouraged to “enlist” Seth because of his unflagging commitment to social justice and nonviolence. Seth has provided pro bono services to our organization on behalf of veterans and active duty personnel as VFP has struggled with the legal ramifications of our work to ensure that these veterans and their families will be treated fairly and justly. He has also been a much-respected voice around the table as we have discussed issues and actions that require us to maintain our commitment to non-violence even as we actively protest what we perceive to be injustices impacting veterans. Although Veterans for Peace cannot endorse a candidate for political office since we are a non-profit organization, I’d like to think that my personal assessment of Seth’s role in Maine citizens’ work to achieve social equality for all is representative of many individual chapter members’ beliefs."
Doug Rawlings
William Ladd Chapter Secretary
Veterans for Peace

Voting Green in District 115 is safe.

Some people worry that voting for a Green might let a Republican slip through, and though the Democrat might not be ideal the Republican might be worse. Here is how the Republican has done in this District in recent elections:

2008- 17% in a three-way race
2006 - 18% in a three-way race; and
2004 - no Republican candidate.

You can verify these results yourself at the Maine Secretary of State web page. This is not a district that supports Republicans. In fact, in 2008 the Green candidate got almost twice as many votes as the Republican. This year, the Republican has raised no money, has spent no money, is not campaigning at all, and might not even live in the district any more. In other words, voting for me will not turn the district Republican, but it might turn it Green. And if you look at what I stand for I am more of a Democrat than the guy who is claiming to be one.

I invite people to ask me questions on where I stand and/or why. I particularly invite all who are interested to contact me and help with my campaign. I do not need money, I am a Clean Elections candidate and have my fair share of funding. I do need volunteers to help brainstorm, pass out literature, knock on doors, talk with friends about me, write letters to the editor supporting me, put signs in their yards, and especially host little house parties where I can meet people in the district and answer their questions and concerns.
